What I love

What makes me feel good is to meet and interact with people from whom I can learn something or who can bring me a new perspective on things. I love exchanging ideas with people who have different experiences, which is very enriching. I am also very fond of cinema and love discovering and discussing new movies: to me, the medium of cinema is both a pathway to realities that we don’t have access to in our everyday life and a great material for aesthetic work!

VC is an invitation to shape the future

I became drawn to the venture ecosystem when I was working at the Ministry for the Economy. Firstly because of the concentration of inspiring and positively spirited people you get to meet and work with in the startup world, be they founders or my colleagues in Aster. Also, because I have long been fascinated by the idea of imagining tomorrow’s world, whether it’s in terms of public policies or through technological innovation transforming people’s lives.

Startups and political movements have a lot in common

Prior to joining Aster, I was working first at Bercy and later in politics, heading the team in charge of elections at En marche, the political movement of President Macron. I was organizing our political networks and relationships with elected representatives throughout the country. We started everything from scratch: no actual CRM nor long-established local structures like traditional parties. We simply had Excel sheets, some phones, many volunteers helping us and enough energy to spend our days, evenings and weekends on a collective and extraordinary project!

What I was doing required a lot of empathy: putting myself in very different people’s shoes and understanding their concerns. Today, I draw on this experience when dealing with investors, who all have precise expectations that depend on their specific investment strategy.

Political and economic leaders are starting to understand the importance of long-term investment in tech

Over the last three decades, VC has come to play a core role in the evolution of modern societies, probably much more so than any other asset class has. It’s now widely accepted that, besides creating value for investors, the role of VC is to contribute to solving the world’s most pressing challenges. I believe that the way we address the democratic institutions crisis and climate change will be profoundly impacted by startups in the coming 10 years. This is why the context is actually promising for VC, especially in Europe where these matters are strong adoption factors because of people’s values and common preferences.

During the 2020 peak of the COVID-19 pandemic governments and investors did not massively withdraw their VC allocations, because they know how necessary they are to our society and future successes.

The current context can be frightening for investors because they hate uncertainty. That’s why Aster is ideally positioned: we can draw from 20 years of experience in the field, and we choose to invest in trends where tech can be truly transformational in overcoming societal and economic challenges.
